After the School Council is chosen, they then work to make Sticklepath an even better school and to give the children an important say in how our school runs.

Examples of how we have made Sticklepath a better place for its pupils are through a number of ideas that we have had. A few years ago we decided that children would benefit from a healthy tuck shop. We met with the catering manager and ordered in food that we thought would sell. The School Council have since then been responsible for selling the food and drink every break time. Not only do the pupils enjoy the food, it also helps our independence when buying items.

Last year, after visiting another Trust School, we decided we wanted to have a salad bar for children to use at lunchtimes in order to continue to encourage healthy eating and independence. We raised some money and bought our own salad bar.

This year we have decided to create a friendship area in the school grounds. This will be a quiet place intended for reading and chatting peacefully. It will contain personalised items from each class across the school, such as designed plant pots, so it becomes the children’s area. We have worked in partnership with the PTFA to astroturf it and are currently painting the fences.

Each year we choose a charity in which we aim to raise as much money as possible in order to make a difference. This year our chosen charity is the Wallace and Gromit Hospice Appeal. So far we have raised nearly £400 for the charity and are looking to reach the target of £1000 by the end of the year.

We have Librarians, Eco-Warriors and Sports Leaders that all do their bit to create a special place for all the children at our school. But pupil voice is not just about the School Council and these other groups. All of our children have voice and something important to say and contribute to make Sticklepath a great place to learn and play.
